About Myst~Tree

A cat, an apple tree, and rather a lot of bees

Myst~Tree began with our cat, Myst.

As a kitten, she loved climbing the apple tree outside our home, usually sending apples bouncing down onto the cars below. There were only so many apple crumbles we could eat, so Greg decided to try making cider.

The first batch was god awful.

Luckily, stubbornness won. Cider led to cyser (an apple mead made with honey) and that led to one very dangerous thought:

“I could probably just get my own bees to provide the honey for this...”

A few hives later, the bees had completely taken over.

What started as a side project to protect our cars from falling fruit became a genuine passion for beekeeping, honey, cider, and the wildlife that relies on the same flowers and habitats as our bees.

What Myst~Tree is today

Myst~Tree is a small family-run cider and beekeeping business based in Rainford, Merseyside.

We produce local honey from our own bees, alongside carefully selected seasonal English honeys, bee-inspired gifts and, soon, cider made under the same Myst~Tree name. Every jar of honey is filled, labelled and packed by hand.

But the business is about more than products.

Through Myst~Tree and the Rewilding Rainford Initiative that stemmed from it, we support local wildlife, donate wildflower seeds to schools and youth groups, create educational content for all ages, and help community projects where we can.

Local people support our business, so we try to use the business to support the local community and environment in return.

Meet Greg

Greg is the beekeeper, jar-filler, label-sticker, video-maker and general bee botherer behind Myst~Tree.

Alongside running the business, he works full-time as a technologist and uses his social media channels to show what really goes into beekeeping, honey production and running a small local business: the good bits, the hard bits, and the occasional complete disaster caused by either bees, weather, or Greg’s terminal case of being a numpty.

He is passionate about championing small local businesses, supporting independent stockists, and showing people the real work behind the products they buy.

Through Myst~Tree, Greg also tries to make beekeeping and nature education more accessible, helping people of all ages understand bees, pollinators, wildlife, and how small changes can make a real difference for the environment.

Meet Kat

Kat has been part of Myst~Tree right from the very beginning.

From the first cider experiments to the early days of beekeeping, she has helped shape the business, managed the chaos, and kept things grounded while Greg repeatedly decided that “just one more hive” was a reasonable idea.

Myst~Tree has always been a family effort, and Kat is a huge part of what makes that possible. Behind every jar, market stall, late-night packing session, new idea and slightly ambitious project is unseen support, patience and practical help.

She can also tie a perfect bow on gift boxes when powered by port.

The business would not be what it is without her.
